Kommander Tutorial

December 28th, 2004

Linux.com has a tutorial (part 1, part 2) on Kommander, the KDE scripting GUI engine being developed by the Quanta guys. The idea is to enable the creation of dialog based GUIs for simple tasks that can be accomplished using a scripting language. Bash is the default scripting engine but Python, Ruby, etc are supported too.

I tried out Kommander when it was around the 0.8 release IIRC. I was able to whip up a light GMail notifier using Python and Kommander in half an hour. Not quite whip up, eh? Blame it on the poor documentation; I hope the docs situation has improved now. In any case, hopefully this tutorial brings new users to Kommander ‘cos it’s really got good potential.
